What is Basis point (bp)?
A basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point. If a yield moves from 4.50% to 4.56%, it has risen 6 basis points. Interest rates use this small unit because small moves matter on large loans and deposits. The Federal Reserve usually changes its rate in steps of 25 basis points.
