What is Expense ratio?
An expense ratio is the yearly fee a mutual fund or ETF charges, written as a percentage of the money invested. It is taken out of the fund's assets rather than billed separately, so it shows up as a slightly lower return. A ratio of 0.50% takes half of one percent a year; over decades, small differences in fees can add up to large sums.
