What is Pre-market?

Pre-market trading runs from 4 to 9:30 a.m. ET, before the regular session opens. Like after-hours trading it is thin, which means early prices can change sharply once the opening bell brings in the full market. Companies often release results before the open, which is why pre-market moves cluster on earnings days.
